The design of our Enhanced Aluminum Mirrors

All of our SEA enhanced aluminum mirrors are protected by a multilayer dielectric overcoating. These very thin protective coatings considerably enhance the Enhanced aluminum front surface mirror opticsvisible reflectance compared to bare aluminum or protected aluminum metal mirror coatings and shield the metallic aluminum layer to prevent oxidization. The coatings are vacuum deposited on a high-grade glass substrate material. Because the optically effective mirror coating is located directly on top of the glass substrate, an excellent image quality is achieved by our enhanced aluminium mirrors. Ghost images or doubled laser beams, which are inherent to the functional principle of backside coated mirrors, are completely avoided with our front surface coated aluminum mirror optics.

 

Properties, cost and applications

Both, the SEA-VIS and the SEA-NIR enhanced aluminum metal coatings show a good resistance to heat, humidity and abrasion, which is much better than what can be achieved with silver mirrors. The mirrors are economically priced optics, which have proven to be an ideal choice for projects that require good optical performance, and a high mechanical stability at low cost. Therefore, many high volume devices are based on our aluminum coated mirrors. The SEA-NIR near infrared aluminum mirror coatings can be a cost-effective alternative to gold mirrors, when used as NIR or IR mirror optics. For ultraviolet applications, we manufacture the protected aluminum SEA–UV mirrors. Both, the SEA–VIS and the SEA–NIR enhanced aluminum mirrors, can be used as laser beam mirrors for up to medium laser beam powers. We manufacture all of our metallic aluminum front surface mirrors at large dimensions. The dielectric over coatings can be optimized and modified to enhance the reflectivity for special wavelengths.
